For a NYC City series the New York Times commissioned Kerin Rose to create custom sneakers for a multi part profile on the sneaker. Three easy-to-replicate customized looks were created around important NYC figures: a graffiti drip shoe Taki (for the oft credited first graffiti tagger Taki-183), a rust metallic shoe Herc (for DJ Kool Herc who originated hip hop music) and an energic splatter shoe Ramone (after NYC punk pioneers The Ramones).
